You’ve probably read about avacados in every healthy eating book or magazine, but if you’re not familiar with this fruit, then you may wonder what all the hype is about. Well, Avacods are healthy, they’re known as an alligator pear or butter fruit and they provide a substantial amount of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). Because they’re naturally nutrient-dense, they contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. Some say they’re not just great for our bodies, they’re great for our vision too. This is because avacados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals that are concentrated in the tissues in the eyes, where they provide antioxidant protection, minimize damage from ultraviolet light. It’s no wonder why then that they’re extremely popular in Australia where you’ll find more avacados than apples in supermarkets. If you don’t eat this popular fruit in any of your meals, try it because it really will do you the world of good.
