A Guide to Successful Bakes

As the winter weather arrives, more and more people will be baking festive biscuits, cakes and breads, filling the house with aromas of nutmeg and cinnamon. If you’re the type of person who’s happy to buy off-the-shelf mince pies and cakes, then it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. Baking takes some dedication, but the results can be spectacular, and here are some helpful tips:

  • Stock up on baking books.
  • Read recipes thoroughly before you start.
  • If you’re making pies, have a session practicing kneading.
  • Always leave enough mix over for another batch, that way if they burn you haven’t wasted everything.
  • Stick to simple flavours first, and then start adding your own twist.
  • Spend time decorating on paper before piping directly onto your bakes.
  • Measure all of your ingredients accurately
